Meteor Client and Runner: Trish

“I had set running a marathon as a goal and knew I would need help on how to fuel right for the training and race. I also felt like there had to be something I was doing wrong because I had runs that were great and I had runs that I felt like I had no energy. I also struggled with heat and humidity and was sure I could not do marathon training in the heat without figuring out what I needed to be doing better.

Work stress was a big road block for me to fuel and hydrate properly during my work day. Having to log my meals and snacks and checking off the goal for hydration helped me see where and why some of my runs felt like I was dying and others I felt like I could run forever. Meteor Nutrition helped me with strategies to stay hydrated during my work day and make sure I ate meals and snacks during my work day.

My success with nutrition gave me more energy, faster times and an overall better feeling after running. Before I worked with Meteor Nutrition I would be exhausted after my long runs and basically laid around all day after. Once I started watching my hydration, following the performance plate formulas and fueling properly for my body I was able to run 19 miles in the morning and then go rock climbing after.

I also used what Kelsey has said over and again (and posted on social media) that healing takes energy. I took a bad fall while running about 3 weeks before my marathon and could not run for a week. I knew if I did not fuel properly and rest I would not get to run the marathon that I had worked so hard to be able to run. Using what she said about keeping the calories the same helped me heal quickly.

I make sure to get plenty of fluids even if I am not running and fuel for the training and race to come, not what I did that day. I am most proud that I just ran my first full marathon faster than my goal pace. I finished the marathon feeling great and took 2nd in my age group. I really was not sure I would be able to run this after my fall because my ankle swelled and bruised so badly. However, focusing on fueling, rest and icing it had me back in my running shoes pretty quickly. I used almost the same foods and fuel for my marathon as I used for the Ameris Half, just with some additional fuel for the race and extra pre race carbs. Ameris Bank was another proud moment that showed me that fueling and hydrating properly really did help because the heat and humidity was rough this year; however, I dropped just over 12 minutes off of last year's Ameris bank time.

If I have a friend or training partner that was struggling to implement nutrition strategies and needed help, I would tell them not to be afraid to seek the advice of a nutritionist. It can be uncomfortable and scary to seek help, but in the end it will be worth it. I have recommended Meteor Nutrition to a few people, however, I always tell my friends they need to be comfortable with the nutritionists approach. I knew I could not work with someone who pushed a bunch of supplements and powders. I checked out the Meteor Nutrition page, Facebook page and Instagram before I decided to work with Meteor Nutrition and recommend anyone who is looking for a nutritionist to do the same.”
