I was diagnosed with two stress fractures in 2023 - one in the femur and one in the femoral neck - as well as a diagnosis of RED-S. I worked with Kelsey for about a year after my diagnosis, focusing on fueling for injury recovery and then returning to running. In the midst of this, I moved across the country to Salt Lake City, UT, which Kelsey also helped navigate (running at altitude and desert heat comes with its own unique fueling needs). I had my last injury related appointment with Kelsey in November 2024, with a couple check-ins in the spring due to some unrelated things that came up as well as coming up with a fueling plan for my spring marathon.
My injury was a wake-up call that how I was approaching fueling (or the lack thereof) was unsustainable and I recognize now that I had some disordered eating patterns. Kelsey taught me that nutrition doesn't need to be complicated and helped me understand how much food we really need, in all phases of life. Taking the things I learned, I had my strongest, and most importantly, healthiest marathon training cycle to date, resulting in a 17 minute marathon PR and a Boston Qualifying time. I'm now eyeing some other big goals, both in terms of time and distance.
It's hard to put into words but at the heart of it, Kelsey truly changed my life. After working on my relationship with food, I feel so much more present in my day to day and much happier all around. Unexpected things, like a dinner out, or eating out while traveling don't phase me anymore (and I think the people around me appreciate this too). Not to say there aren't some days that are hard, but I have the tools and confidence to know what I need and that I can always reach out to Kelsey if I need something. Working with Kelsey was more than just nutritional guidance; it was a complete reset of how I cared for my body, and the progress I’ve made isn’t just about running faster—it’s about feeling at peace with food, my body, and myself. I’m endlessly grateful for Kelsey’s support in getting me to this place.
